Jane Fonda said at age 85 she was “the happiest I’ve ever been” in an interview with People which was released on Wednesday.
The artist spoke about a variety of topics during the sit-down, including her experience of aging and enduring hardship.
The Academy Award-winning actress, who previously stated that exercise is vital to having sex, also discussed her time working on the upcoming comedy feature film Book Club: The Next Chapter.
During the interview, Fonda stated that even though she had faced many adversities over the years, she had remained steadfast in her ability to handle it all.
“There have been tragedy and difficult things in my life. But I never succumbed to them. I’ve been resilient all my life,” she said.

The Grace and Frankie star then spoke about how she never expected to end up as a recording artist during her younger years.
“I’m not someone who grew up wanting to act, wanting to be an actor. I didn’t think I had talent,” she said.
Fonda also discussed her relationship with her father, Henry, which she admitted was difficult at times.
She recalled, “He never brought joy to the house. I never felt like he was getting joy… it never manifested itself when he got home, so it wasn’t like ‘oh my gosh, I want what he’s got.’”
The actress then spoke of what she wished she could have been told during her early years as a performer.
“I wish someone had said to me, ‘Don’t give up, keep going, it will get better,’ because I didn’t see a future. I didn’t think I’d live past 30. That’s why… I don’t take anything for granted,” she said.
Fonda also shared how she made health a priority in the later years of her life, stating, “That’s why I look younger than my numerical age, because I’m healthy.” And I have a good attitude!’
The Barbarella star went on to discuss Book Club: The Next Chapter, which serves as a sequel to its 2018 predecessor and also stars Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen.

The artist stated that she was happy to have been able to reunite with her friends and that the experience was “a dream come true.”
She said, “It’s everything I imagined women’s friendships could be… We’re friends and we love working together and we help each other out when we need to.”
Fonda added, “When I was younger there was this assumption that women were kind of catty and that four stars working together wouldn’t work because they would compete, and that’s just not true.”
The upcoming romantic comedy is currently scheduled to release on May 12.
