Jim Furyk was named captain of the US team at the 2024 Presidents Cup on Tuesday.

The biennial event between American and international teams is scheduled for September 24-29, 2024 in Montreal.

Canada’s Mike Weir was named captain of the international squad in November.

Furyk, a 17-time winner of the PGA Tour, will make his debut as the event’s captain. He played in seven Presidents Cups from 1998-2011, with a record of 20-10-3, and was assistant to the captain in 2015 and 2017.

This is not the first time that Furyk has captained an international golf tournament. He also captained Team USA at the 2018 Ryder Cup where the Americans lost 17.5–10.5 to Team Europe.

“Selected by my colleagues to take on the role of captain of the US team for the 2024 Presidents Cup is truly an honor that I accept with humility and joy,” said Furyk.

“Over the decades, this event has evolved tremendously into the global showcase it is today, and I’m excited to continue that momentum.

“So many legendary captains have preceded me, so to be here now as the 2024 US Team Captain is quite remarkable.”

Furyk competed in the only previous Presidents Cup hosted in 2007 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, posting a 3-2 record in the American win of 19 1/2 to 14 1/2.

“Royal Montreal has some unforgettable memories for me, as I know for so many other players and fans who witnessed the Presidents Cup in 2007,” said Furyk.

“The course is a perfect setting for match play, and I know the passionate Canadian golf fans on site will create a great atmosphere, making for an extraordinarily special repeat of the event.”

The USA team has won the last nine Presidents Cups, including the most recent edition in Charlotte, NC, in 2022 under captain Davis Love III.

The international team has not won since 1988 in Melbourne, Australia.

Furyk, 52, won the 2003 US Open and was runner-up at the 2013 PGA Championship.

He was the 2010 PGA Tour’s Player of the Year and FedEx Cup Champion and set a tour record with a round of 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

“Jim has been a role model and a great ambassador for the PGA Tour throughout his remarkable career,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan.

And given the role he has played in the growth and success of the Presidents Cup over the past 25 years, both as a participant and assistant to the captain, it is fitting that he brings his leadership skills to Montreal in 2024, where he will become the assumes the role of Captain of the American team.”
