Newly promoted Wrexham head to Hollywood in July where they build on their US fanbase with a friendly against Major League Soccer (MLS) reserve team LA Galaxy II.

The Welsh club taken over by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in November 2020 got the fairytale ending they craved in April, when they returned to the English Football League as fifth tier champions with a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood .

Wrexham has attracted a lot of attention in the famously football-ambivalent United States thanks to the star power of their A-list owners and their popular docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

“We have enjoyed meeting supporters who have come over from America to visit us this season and it will be a fantastic opportunity to play against the American opposition in front of more of these new fans,” manager Phil Parkinson said in a statement. which refers to the July 22 game.

Two other games in the US have already been confirmed, with Wrexham on July 19 and 25 respectively against Chelsea in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Manchester United in San Diego, California.

The celebrity owners will also reportedly fly the team to Las Vegas as a reward for winning the National League with a record 111 points.

“They promised us a lot at the end of the season,” goaltender Ben Foster told CBS Sports in April.

“They promised us a monster party at the end of the season, (that) if we get promoted, they’ll take us somewhere with lots of flashing lights.”

The Wrexham women’s team also won promotion in a year of double success for Reynolds and McElhenney. They will also be part of the club’s open-top bus parade through the city on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, fans have acted quickly to remove offensive graffiti from a vandalized mural ahead of local celebrations after discovering a message believed to be linked to the death of lifelong fan Neil Williams.

Markings of ‘CFC’ and ‘125’ were scrawled on the mural – located on Crispin Lane – in a clear reference to Wrexham’s arch rivals Chester FC. ‘125’ is Chester’s front line fan gang, or ‘company’.

Hoping to remove the graffiti ahead of this week’s victory lap around the Welsh city of 135,000, supporters worked quickly to paint over the derogatory content.

The posts were first painted over with white paint, before fans returned later in the day to apply an additional coat of the correct color.

A fan posted an image of the rescued mural on Tuesday morning, sharing on Twitter, “We’ll be back with a darker top coat later. Up the Reds #WelcometoWrexham.’
