Australian pop star turned swimmer Cody Simpson is making waves Instagram while showing off his intensive training program to make it to the Paris Olympics despite recently bombing the national championships.
Simpson, who has been swimming competitively since 2019, actively shares his fitness journey with his five million Instagram followers by giving them a glimpse of his grueling routine.
Simpson’s workout regimen in the video consists of four exercises, all of which focus on building his back muscles.
The first consists of barbell rows with no less than 80 kg of weight, plus the bar. The second exercise is the weighted chin-up, where Simpson adds an extra 30 kg to his weight belt for an extra challenge.
The third exercise targets his core muscles with weighted sit-ups. Holding a 10 kg weight plate, he rotates and extends his body to engage his obliques in addition to his abs.
Simpson hopes to emulate his Olympic hero partner Emma McKeon (pictured together) and impress at the 2024 Paris Games
Finally, Simpson ends his workout with one-arm lat pulldowns, targeting his latissimus dorsi, trapezius, and posterior deltoid.
“The destination is the journey, how it shapes you, helps you grow,” he posted.
Indispensable tools and lessons of perseverance that I will use throughout my life as a musician, businessman, friend and human being.
“Regardless of the outcome, I am so grateful for what my journey as a swimmer teaches me.

The video follows Simpson’s disappointing performance at the Australian Swimming Championships held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Center in April.

Simpson failed to secure a spot in the men’s 100m freestyle final, eventually finishing as the 17th fastest swimmer overall after competing in the B final.
He also finished eighth in the 100-meter butterfly at the same event.
His underperformance at the national championships shows he has a lot of work ahead of him if he is to secure a coveted spot on the plane to the 2024 Games.
The former musician also recently wrote a heartfelt tribute to his Olympic swimmer girlfriend Emma McKeon on the occasion of their first anniversary.
In a romantic gesture, Cody shared the poem with his Instagram audience. Accompanied by an artful photo of Emma seemingly staring topless out of a window, Cody expressed his deep love for her.
