  • He scored 11 goals in his last 15 games as his side progressed to a European place
  • Bayern technical director Marco Neppe was reportedly at a Villa match last week

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Ollie Watkins in the summer, according to a report.

The striker has shone for Aston Villa since the arrival of Unai Emery and is one of the Premier League’s formative players to help his side to the brink of European qualification.

He has scored 11 times in his last 15 games for his side, who, after a poor start to the season under Steven Gerrard, are sixth in the Premier League with five games to play.

Bayern technical director Marco Neppe was reportedly at Villa Park on Tuesday to watch Watkins’ side beat Fulham 1-0, and it has been suggested he was there to watch the 27-year-old.

According to The sunwould ask for a fee of around £60 million, with Bayern considering a bid as they look for a new frontman to lead their attack.

Thomas Tuchel's side are keen to sign a new striker after failing to replace Robert Lewandowski's goals last season

Thomas Tuchel’s side are keen to sign a new striker after failing to replace Robert Lewandowski’s goals last season

Thomas Tuchel’s side have struggled all season for consistency and effort to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona last summer.

They are second to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, but still have a game in hand and were knocked out of the Champions League by a ruthless Manchester City earlier this month.

Watkins joined Villa from Brentford for £32 million in 2020 and had a slow start at Villa Park but has found form in recent times.

The 27-year-old is a shoe-in for England’s next side and has two years left on his contract with the club, which would add to the hefty fee.

It is also believed that he will hold talks about a new contract when the season is over.

It is suggested that Neppe also kept an eye on Joao Palinha’s performance, while Tuchel was keen to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks.

The Portuguese star has been shining for Fulham since arriving last summer and could move to one of Europe’s top clubs this year.

He cost the Cottagers £17.2 million from Sporting, and Fulham would get a big return if they moved him.

He was part of a successful first year in the Premier League for Marco Silva’s side, making 34 appearances in all competitions as his side sit 10th in the table.
