Phil Neville can breathe a sigh of relief after his Inter Miami team snapped a six-game MLS losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Columbus Crew.

Leonardo Campana is the man Neville can thank for three crucial points – the striker scored twice in the first half and led his team to victory.

He opened the scoring in the seventh minute, but Cucho Hernandez did not equalize for Columbus until three minutes later.

But Campana scored the decisive goal four minutes before the break as Miami held on for a win that eased the pressure on coach Neville.

“I have no doubt that the tide has turned for us, in terms of we now have a group fighting and showing the spirit they showed last season,” Neville said after the game.

Miami’s last MLS win came against the Philadelphia Union on March 4.

The Crew, meanwhile, lost at home for the first time this season after three wins and a draw. They also had a 10-match home unbeaten run until the end of last season.

Miami made quick work of two questionable goals with the opening goal. Inter, by scoring for the first time in four games, avoided any chance of an MLS record with four consecutive 1–0 losses and also broke Montreal’s record by not scoring in their first five road games in a season.

Campana was back in his third game from an injury that cost him the first six games.

His first goal of the season came off a header from rookie Benjamin Cremaschi in his first MLS start. Campana took the pass in the pass and scored on Patrick Schulte from the right side of the box.

The Crew responded soon after with Lucas Zelarayan finding an unmarked Hernandez, who took two touches and then ripped a shot from the left corner of the box into the far corner for his first goal of the season.

Campana made it 2-1 with a header at the right post from a corner kick by Jean Mota.

The Crew suffered another blow to the defense as Australian World Cup defender Milos Degenek went off with a leg injury in the 13th minute. Defender Will Sands suffered a knee injury during the previous game against Charlotte FC that ended at the end of the season.

Degenek’s replacement, Philip Quinton, was hit against the ball by Campana on his second goal.
