  • He has reportedly told his friends that he no longer wants to play for the club

Mason Greenwood has told his friends he will never play for Manchester United again.

Greenwood’s rape and assault allegations were dropped in February, but the Red Devils have continued to face an internal investigation, delaying the attacker’s return to the field.

The 21-year-old star, who was initially arrested in January 2022, expected to join Erik ten Hag’s squad after charges were dropped by the prosecution earlier this year and appears frustrated at the lack of progress.

For now, the suspended striker is not allowed to return to training, despite still earning ÂŁ70,000 a week.

His contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2025.

That’s what a source close to the youngster told The sun: ‘Mason believes he is done at United.

“He is home kicking and very frustrated.

“He wants to play football again, but realizes that his situation is very complicated and that he brought it on himself.

“He’s determined to play football again, but doesn’t think he’ll ever wear a United shirt again.”

Greenwood’s arrest came after a woman accused the Manchester United star of physical and sexual abuse on social media, covering a period between November 2018 and October 2021.

The youngster was quickly suspended by United, while Nike cut ties with him without compensation.

Greenwood was said to have held extensive talks with United officials last month in hopes of reviving his career with the Red Devils, emphasizing his desire to return as soon as possible.

Prior to the exciting news in February, sources told Mail Sport that the worst possible outcome for United would be for Greenwood’s charges to be dropped.

Legally, nothing is stopping United from re-integrating Greenwood into their first-team squad, but commercial managers would be wary of the potential damage his return could do to the club’s reputation.

United said in February: “The club will now carry out its own process before determining next steps.

“We will not comment further until that process is complete.”
