A little negative publicity might look unhappy, two start to look careless.

While the Buckingham Palace press service wants to focus on the upcoming coronation, they were forced to cover a few disturbing stories about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over the past week.

A statement written by Prince Harry, written for a lawsuit, claims there was a secret deal between his brother Prince William and a newspaper group over phone hacking, and that his father’s office didn’t want to rock the press to make sure that he and Camilla enjoyed a smooth ride to the coronation.

Then there was the revelation that Meghan had written to the now king about the ‘unconscious bias’ racism in 2021, but was unhappy with the response she received.

The Sussex camp has denied the row was leaked, but The Mail on Sunday’s assistant editor Kate Mansey thinks it is “strange” that the row of letters appeared “so close” to the coronation.

Kate explained: ‘Behind the scenes, there is a fight about how the letter, existence, came about and why someone decided to talk about it now.

Clearly the journalists have not revealed their sources and the Sussexes have denied leaking it.

“But the leaks are all something Harry has been rehearsing about in the past.”

Meanwhile, Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden said: ‘My first reaction was how magnanimous of Charles to write to her.

Anyone who has seen the Netflix documentary may remember the moment when Harry reportedly received a text from his brother and he was so shocked that you saw Meghan go over to comfort him and go outside.

That was Williams’ reaction to this horrible interview and all the horrible accusations Harry and Meghan made.

“We know the Queens’ reaction. she left things for a few days and let things settle down and then talked about, “Memories can vary”.

“It seems that Charles did what he often does, sat down and wrote a letter with his thoughts.”

He continued, “From what we understand from this Telegraph report, it was thrown in his face that Meghan was unhappy with his response.

“I think she was lucky to get a response from him at all.”

Kate continued: “It seems odd that this has come out now, so close to the coronation.

“Obviously someone wanted to get that news out or let it slip, so… but it boils down to speculation as to why Meghan isn’t going.

“You can understand someone who says, ‘Maybe it’s because of the letter to which she didn’t get an adequate response.’

Meanwhile, she said the story was a “distraction” from the upcoming coronation, which will take place in less than two weeks.

She said, “It’s just a distraction from the whole thing.”

Richard continued, “It’s worth checking out where this story was published. It came out in the Daily Telegraph which Harry said in the Netflix documentary was the only UK newspaper that wasn’t a tabloid, he said in a rather rude manner.

“The fact that it appeared in The Telegraph, which is quite positive, there was also an interview in that newspaper to promote his memoirs.

“Of course that raises suspicions about how they got it.”

Kate added: ‘He recently gave that interview to their columnist Bryony Gordon, so there’s a connection to The Telegraph.

“Perhaps that’s why people assumed it was a leak from their camp, which I suppose they denied.”

It was reported on Friday that Meghan had written a letter to King Charles after her amazing Oprah interview, and she reportedly named the person accused of speculating about the skin color of her unborn son Archie.

It is understood that it was sent in response to a letter from the King – the only senior member of the family to have contacted the Duchess after Meghan and Harry were interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

A source told it Daily telegram that the Duchess will not attend the coronation on 6 May because she has received an unsatisfactory answer from the King.

But Sussex insider Omid Scobie released a statement from Team Sussex, who in response to the reports said it was ‘false’ and ‘downright ridiculous’.

Writing from his Twitter account, Omid Scobie posted the statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It read: ‘The Duchess of Sussex lives her life in the present and does not think of correspondence from two years ago which relates to conversations from four years ago.

“Any other suggestion is false and downright ridiculous.

“We encourage tabloid media and various other royal correspondents to stop exhausting the circus they alone are creating.”

Elsewhere on the programme, Kate also said she believes a lot of the stress over Harry’s court documents could have been avoided if the Sussex and Wales teams had been in touch.

“You would hope, out of courtesy, even if they weren’t talking to each other, that he would have called William’s office or at least let them know that this would come out,” she tells the program.

“But it seems that wasn’t the case.”
