Emma Watson says her dad gave her ‘wine and water’ when she was a kid as she launches new gin brand

Emma Watson has admitted that she was “confused” by other teens’ excitement about alcohol, having been used to drinking wine mixed with water “since I was a kid.”

The 33-year-old actress shared how her father used to give her the alcoholic drink as part of her lunch and therefore didn’t get the fascination of other kids her age with trying booze that was considered “forbidden fruit.”

Emma’s words come at a time when she wants to turn her career around and launch a new premium gin brand, Renais, together with her younger brother Alex, 30.

After stepping out of the spotlight after her last movie in 2019, Emma has returned with a foray into wine and spirits, which has been her family’s business for years.

And during an interview with luxury magazine, Financial Times’ How to spend it – of which she appears on the front cover with Alex – Emma explains that the taste of alcohol is nothing new to her.

She said, “I was quite surprised when other kids got really excited about the idea of getting their hands on alcohol.

“From childhood, my father gave me wine and water for lunch. So I was pretty confused as a teenager and everyone thought alcohol was a forbidden fruit.’

The Harry Potter star cut a casual figure as she posed with Alex on a wooden table in what appears to be a country estate.

Dressed in jeans, a gray cardigan, a white T-shirt from the returning Adidas Gazelle, Emma seemed a far cry from the red carpet glitz and glamor that fans are used to seeing her.

The chat will see the now movie star turned distiller talk about acting, Hollywood and growing up in a family obsessed with wine, food and the culture around it.

It comes after Emma celebrated her 33rd birthday earlier this month by reflecting on a year in which she made gin, did therapy and set up an environmental investment fund for women.

The actress, best known for playing Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films, said she’s “learned more about love and being a woman” over the past year thanks to “Saturn’s Return.”

Born April 15, 1990, movie star Emma has taken a break from social media since a previous post on Instagram in December 2022.

She shared a series of black and white photos that showed her in a variety of outfits, including shorts, dresses and jackets, taken during her birthday last year.

Emma captioned her post, “This is 33. Holy moly. Before I was 29 I hadn’t even heard of a Saturn Return as a concept. Let’s say I’m well known now.

“I got out of my life – I learned to surf (bad), I rode some horses (that went better), I did a lot of therapy (YESS therapy!). My brother and I joined forces @renaisspirits.

“I adopted Sofia in Mexico, who appears to be an angel, not a dog. We filmed a Harry Potter reunion⚡️. I said goodbye to my grandmother and grandfather. I retraced my steps.

‘I started an environmental investment fund for women. I played Pickleball with @sugarrayleonard and I even played golf and then tried to get all my girlfriends to learn.

“I cut my thumbnail off both hands trying to cook for myself and could only do things with one hand for months afterwards.

“I felt really sad and really angry about a lot of things. I learned more about love and being a woman.

“It took me three years, but I finally figured out a daily practice and can even keep it up for more than a few days at a time.

“I burned down some things. I’m eating green things now! I became obsessed with creating Squarespace websites. I directed my first commercial.

“These photos were actually taken on my birthday last year, but I wasn’t ready to get out of my Covid Cocoon just yet.

“Today I feel (blue butterfly emoji). Thank you to the witches in my coven who were so crucial in helping me get to where and who I am today. You are my Avengers and you inspire me and kick ass. It takes a village, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
