US Soccer has appointed Matt Crocker from Premier League side Southampton as its new sporting director.
Crocker will begin immediately to find the USMNT’s next coach, despite not starting full-time in his role until August 2.
“I am honored and excited to join US Soccer as the new Sporting Director,” Crocker said in a press release Tuesday.
“This is a great opportunity to build an elite program and help take football in the United States to the next level. As sporting director, I will immediately focus on supporting the women’s national team in preparation for the upcoming World Cup and on hiring a head coach for the men’s national team.
“These are critical priorities and I am committed to ensuring that both are my immediate focus. I also look forward to working with the entire American football community, including coaches, clubs and players at all levels, to develop a clear and consistent philosophy of play and identify and advance talent across the country.
“US Soccer has tremendous potential and I’m excited to be a part of the future.”
