Young Aussies were struggling to answer the question ‘what does Anzac stand for’ when a social media star brought them up to speed.
Held annually on April 25, Anzac Day is a memorial day celebrated in both Australia and New Zealand, commemorating the anniversary of their military involvement in the Gallipoli Campaign during World War I.
About 8,700 Australians died during the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915, where 75,000 Anzac troops fought in dangerous conditions for eight months, in a battle that defined the national identities of Australia and New Zealand.
In a video posted to social media on Monday, Ethan Roman went to a crowded mall and questioned young Aussies about the meaning of the acronym.

Anzac is an acronym standing for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps – and was a nickname adopted by soldiers who fought in the Corps during the war.
Ethan asks a young woman, “Okay, what does ANZAC stand for?”
The young woman pauses before replying, “Australian National … f**k I don’t know, man.”
Ethan then asks the same question to a young man.
The young man replies, ‘ANZAC? Australia, harmony” before being interrupted by Ethan who reminds him of the question.
“Oh, Anzac,” says the young man. “Okay, so start well with Australia. Australia, uh, England, uh, New Zealand, come together, come together!’
Ethan laughs at the answer before the young man claims he “never learned that.”

Then two young women are asked the same question. The pair look to each other for help answering correctly.
“Australia, New Zealand,” says the first girl before asking her friend for help.
“Army Corps,” the second girl replies.
Many have criticized the young Aussies for not knowing the right answer.
“I live in Australia and she [young Australians] just think Anzac is a day when only Australians lost their lives, I’m amazed,” one wrote.

Another claimed that young people can memorize a TikTok dance but still have no idea what Anzac means.
“This is terrible and disappointing, I am speechless,” said a third person.
A fourth added: ‘I’m not sure if it says more about them or about our education system. Anyway, it’s disgusting.’
