But the Aston Villa star has 14 goals and six assists in the Premier League this season and has impressed Unai Emery’s resurgent side with 11 goals in his last 13 games.

Southgate was at Villa Park to see Watkins score three times in two games as he scored in the 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest and twice in the 3-0 win over Newcastle.

Holland would have been present for Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Brentford, with the 27-year-old potentially eligible to be part of a Three Lions squad for the first time since March 2022.

Former Chelsea No 2 Holland, 52, also reportedly saw AC Milan centre-back Tomori play in the Rossoneri’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Napoli where they progressed to the semi-finals with a 2 aggregate win -1.

Tomori has been brilliant for Stefano Pioli’s side this season, but missed out on selection for March’s fixtures against Italy and Ukraine.

Struggling centre-backs Harry Maguire of Manchester United and Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur were then preferred alongside John Stones and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace.

Dier was part of the Spurs backline that conceded five goals in 21 minutes in a 6-1 thrashing against Newcastle on Sunday.

Their showdowns will take place against Malta on June 16 and at home against North Macedonia on June 19.
