Lindsey Graham accuses Dana Bash of ‘covering’ for Democrats on abortion
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on Sunday lashed out at CNN host Dana Bash, accusing her of covering for Democrats in a debate over abortion rights.
The South Carolina senator joined Bash on State of the Union Sunday for an extended interview in which they discussed the ongoing legal battle over the abortion drug mifepristone.
At one point during the conversation, Graham accused Democrats of supporting “barbaric” taxpayer-funded abortion up to the point of birth—leading Bash to note that Roe v. Wade allowed abortion only up to the point of viability.
At the time, Graham accused Bash and other mainstream media of “covering these guys,” saying that “no one in your company will talk” about proposals to allow abortion up to the point of birth.

Bash had corrected the South Carolina Republican that Roe v Wade only allowed abortion up to the point of viability, but Graham said Democrats were trying to push for abortion up to the point of birth
The fiery exchange came when Bash asked Graham if he agreed with Donald Trump that abortion should be a state issue or with Mike Pence, who wants to ban abortion nationwide.
But instead of answering the question, Graham launched into a diatribe against the Democrats, accusing the party of supporting abortion up to the point of birth and saying he believes the Republicans have a good record of the issue until the 2024 presidential election.
His outburst prompted Bash to interject that “for the record, Roe went to viability.”
She then tried to steer the conversation back to her original question, but Graham interrupted and said, “No! No! No! Stop covering these guys! No! No! No! You are media, you keep covering these guys!
“They introduced legislation that allowed abortion on demand, funded by the taxpayer [abortion] until the moment of birth,’ he said. “That was their position in Washington! That’s the law they want to pass and no one in your company will talk about it.’
Responding to allegations that he favored a party, Bash replied, “Senator, I’m not covering for anyone. You know that, and if I have Democrats, I’ve asked many – all of them – their position on where they think this issue should be.
“My question to you, sir, is about President Trump, whom you have re-confirmed as president. Is he right in saying this should be a matter for the state?’
At the time, the pro-life senator said he thinks “anyone running for president who has a snowball chance in hell in the 2024 primary will be with me, the American people and all of Europe, saying that abortions should be long term. from the table.
“I’m confident our nominee will be there in time,” he said, still dodging the question. “I am convinced that no Democrat can answer the question ‘Where do you draw the line? will answer. They are never challenged.
“I welcome this debate,” he concluded.

In the aftermath, President Joe Biden vowed to keep fighting for women’s rights — describing the pro-life causes as “politically driven attacks on women’s health.”
“As a result of the Supreme Court stay, mifepristone remains available and approved for safe and effective use as we continue this battle in the courts,” he said.
“I stand by the FDA’s evidence-based approval of mifepristone and my administration will continue to defend the independent, expert authority of the FDA to review, approve and regulate a broad range of prescription drugs.”
