The Pittsburgh Pirates have had several reasons to smile this season and yet perhaps none more so than when minor league journeyman Drew Maggi was elevated to their MLB roster.
Maggi, who played 13 years with the Minors, was signed by the Pirates from Double-A Altoon on Sunday.
The 33-year-old was not named in the Pirates’ starting lineup for the home game vs. Cincinnati, but was still able to debut.
After being informed of the news, Maggi uttered “Holy ****,” much to the amusement of his raucous teammates.
He then let out a “Let’s f****** go!” before the Pirates locker room harassed Maggi.

According to MLB.com, Maggi has played in 1,155 Minor League games over the course of 13 seasons.
The only other time he was selected on an MLB roster was in 2021 when he was with the Twins. He did not appear during the September 18 match.
Maggi was drafted out of Arizona State University by the Pirates in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
He also played in the World Baseball Classic for Italy. Maggi has also had spells with the Indians.
Pittsburgh is having a great season at 15-7 and is tied in the win column with NL Central leaders. Milwaukee (15-6).
Maggi has slogged through the Minor Leagues since being made the 15th round in 2010
