A politician has shared disturbing footage of a man attempting to break into his neighbour’s house in the middle of the day during Queensland’s juvenile delinquency crisis.

John-Paul Langbroek, the Liberal MP for Surfers Paradise, shared the clip of the attempted break-in on Facebook and Instagram on Saturday.

The footage, filmed on a home security camera, shows a barefoot man scanning the outline of a home in the upscale suburb of Clear Island Waters for the first time.

Undeterred by the property’s alarm system, the agitated man tries to kick the door open several times, but eventually gives up and runs off.

Mr Langbroek used the clip to criticize the Queensland Labor government for not giving the police enough resources to deal with rising crime rates.

‘My street. My neighbour. Broad daylight. I have never seen this in the 30 years we have lived in our house,” he wrote with the images.

‘Get real Queensland Labour. Give Queensland Police the resources they need.”

After sharing the clip at a press conference with Queensland opposition leader David Crisafulli, the MP blamed the increase in crime on Labour’s ‘weakening’ laws eight years ago.

“From Pimpama to Coolangatta, across the city we have chaos in the streets,” he told reporters.

“We have a crime crisis because we have less police in Surfers and in Broadbeach.”

Mr Langbroek said it was a ‘problem’ that Queenslanders were now having to buy security cameras for their homes due to rising crime rates.

Mr Crisafulli said that ‘innocent people’ were falling victim to rising juvenile delinquency which made him feel ‘sick in the stomach’.

He said everyone wanted a Queensland where ‘children are safe in their own homes’.

Crisafulli claimed police officers left the force because they were disrespected and faced with a system that “does not support them with laws.”

“With a population that has soared in the past eight years and to see two dozen fewer police officers in Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise combined shows the dereliction of duty by the Palaszczuk government,” he said.

Crime rates in parts of Queensland have risen sharply in recent years, with 20 fewer full-time officers working in Surfers Paradise compared to eight years ago when Labor was elected.
