Man, 18, found dead in a Queensland park as police launch an investigation into the teenager’s sudden death

The body of a teenager discovered in a Queensland park has sparked a major police investigation into the sudden death.

The 18-year-old man was found around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning in Alice River Park, west of Townsville, in northern Queensland.

Acting Superintendent Chris Lawson said “all deaths are being treated as suspicious,” adding that he cannot rule out homicide at this stage.

He said it was not clear how the teen’s body was initially found.

“All deaths are being treated as suspicious until confirmed otherwise and at this stage of the early investigation we cannot say whether it was homicide or sudden death,” Superintendent Lawson said.

The Criminal Investigation Branch is working to determine the circumstances of the death as the park has been declared a crime scene.

A Queensland Police spokesman said: ‘An 18-year-old man from Alice River was found dead on arrival’.

“The area has been declared a crime scene while investigations into the circumstances of the incident continue.”
