The Last Of Us and Yellowjackets actor Melanie Lynskey reveals she was ‘heartbroken’ when she lost touch with Hollywood co-star Kate Winslet early in their movie career
Melanie Lynskey has made a resurgence in the mainstream after her incredible performances in The Last Of Us and Yellowjackets.
Now the New Zealand-born actor, 45, has revealed that she once starred alongside Hollywood sensation Kate Winslet for her Titanic debut.
Despite bonding on the set of Heavenly Creatures in 1994, Melanie was left “heartbroken” when the pair drifted apart following Kate’s rise to crowning fame.
“I think when I lost touch with Kate it was more heartbreaking than some breakups I’ve had. It was so painful,” she told the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Friday.
“It wasn’t like anything happened, she just became a huge international movie star and didn’t have much time.”

Melanie went on to say that the pair “drifted apart” after the movie star flew to Los Angeles following her breakout role in James Cameron’s epic.
“It was so painful for me,” Melanie said.
“Suddenly she’d be in Los Angeles and wouldn’t have time. And it just happened gradually. And it happens in relationships. You gradually drift apart.
