Coronation Street fans were left sobbing as Ryan Connor fled hospital after seeing his acid attack injuries for the first time.

Viewers of Wednesday night’s episode praised 34-year-old actor Ryan Prescott for his role in the “career-defining” storyline.

The character suffered burns to his face, arm and upper body after jumping in defense of Justin Rutherford’s intended target, Daisy Midgeley.

Assisted at the hospital by his Aunt Carla (Alison King) and Daisy (Charlotte Jordan), Ryan discovers his wounds have not successfully healed, meaning he is in dire need of a skin graft.

Ryan struggled to process the news and escaped the hospital while Carla and Daisy went to find him.

Fans of the soap shared their thoughts on Twitter while praising the star’s emotional storyline and performance.

One viewer posted, “sobbing for Ryan and Carla.”

“This is commendable material from Ryan,” one wrote.

Carla and Daisy found him in a traumatized state at a local train station, and Daisy privately admits she can’t bring herself to tell her stricken boyfriend that Crystal Hyde wants nothing more to do with him.

Ryan was showered with acid after jumping between Daisy – the intended target – and her stalker, Justin.

Hoping to protect Daisy, who was to be married that day, he was left writhing in pain after being hit with the corrosive liquid.

“For Ryan, I don’t think he expects it to be as bad as it is,” Ryan Prescott, who plays the character, said in a recent press release.

“Once his facial injuries are revealed to him, it knocks out of him again. The first looks are heartbreaking. The first time he sees his face, he thinks, “I’ll never have love in my life again.” I’m going to be the one people look at on the street.”
