Terrifying footage captured the moment a parking garage in Manhattan collapsed Tuesday afternoon, killing at least one person and injuring five others.

The horror incident left a fleet of vehicles piled amid crumbled concrete, sparking a massive emergency call near Wall Street.

Shocking surveillance video revealed how the lower level cars were crushed after the upper level collapsed and vehicles fell through the broken concrete.

The incident also left people trapped in an elevator shaft as the building’s dilapidated floors “pancaked” on top of each other, according to city officials.

The footage, which was captured by a Ring surveillance camera, shows the vehicles being quickly submerged by falling concrete in the dark.

Numerous vehicles crashed through the openings as the collapse caused significant damage.

Witnesses described a woman screaming “Get out!” as the structure collapsed, and footage showed the top floor had fallen through with vehicles piled on broken concrete.

Several New York residents who live near the building told DailyMail.com that the building was known to be old and said the tragedy was “unsurprising.”

A parking attendant, who was taken away from the crime scene with his leg wrapped in a bandage, told DailyMail.com that he had “told them something like this was going to happen.”

Shannon Wu, who lives on the same street as the collapsed building, was one of about 100 people waiting outside after police sealed off an area around two blocks.

“It’s a very old building so it’s really not surprising,” she told DailyMail.com. “It is known as a very old building.

“My friend was home when it happened and he said the whole street was shaking.” He described it as “like the subway is shaking under the building.”

The incident occurred at Enterprise Ann Parking at 57 Ann Street, between Nassau Street and William Street in Lower Manhattan, near Wall Street at about 4:15 p.m.

The cause of the deceased person’s death has not been made public and five people are being treated at a local hospital, said FDNY Chief of Operations James Esposito.

Several buildings in the immediate area were evacuated following the incident and officials told DailyMail.com that a police presence will remain in the area as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.

Don Mulligan, who was in the hotel right next to the garage when it collapsed, told DailyMail.com, “The evacuation was very orderly, they didn’t rush people, they just went through the intercom and got everyone out.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams told media that a robot dog, known as Digidog, was needed to enter the building when officials arrived on the scene because the collapsed building was unstable.

“Right now this building is completely unstable and the chief — we don’t want to send anyone until we can make sure the building is propped up,” the mayor added.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell called the incident a “structural collapse”.

The responding firefighters entered the building upon arrival, but retreated when the structure was deemed unstable.

A witness to the horror incident described the sound of the crash as an “incredible sound.”

“I was wondering what that was, so I went to the window and I just saw the top floor of this garage… which just started to collapse and cars just drove into this pit,” Erasmo Guerra told NBC New York .

Angela Aparico worked in a hotel building about a block away.

“It just felt like everything was shaking,” she told DailyMail.com. “It was as if the whole ground was in turmoil, almost like an earthquake.

“I hope everyone is okay.”

An Ann Street resident told DailyMail.com: ‘The building looked unsound for many years, like a converted residential structure with no additional structural supports, although the cars were packed on every floor and on the roof, the walls seemed to be bent and twisting outward. . At first glance it seemed unsound.’

The building has been subpoenaed multiple times since 2008 for violations related to cracks in the concrete, ABC New York reports.

As a result of the incident, nearby Pace University canceled all classes and evacuated their nearby campus.

Michael Papayianis, a film student at Pace University, received a text from the university about canceled classes. “It’s such an old building,” he said. “Almost all the metal inside is rusty…I wouldn’t be surprised if they just overbooked it with cars.”

The garage is used for parking by the New York Sheriff’s Department, all of their personnel are accounted for.

Another Pace University student, Charlie Franklin, told Pix11 that he and his roommate often talked about how unsafe the building looked.

“Sooner or later it would happen. Hopefully they can get their stuff together and Pace can accommodate us for tonight,” Franklin said.
