A man has been charged with murder for shooting dead a notorious lone cyclist in front of his wife in the parking lot of his apartment building.

Yusuf Nazlioglu was shot as he returned with his wife to his Rhodes apartment building in Sydney’s outback in June.

Nazlioglu was one of two men found not guilty in the 2018 murder of Comanchero bikini boss Mick Hawi.

On Wednesday morning, a 25-year-old man was arrested at a house in Blair Athol and charged with the murder of the lone cyclist.

Police will allege in court that the 25-year-old was involved in the planning and coordination of the execution murder.

Mr Nazlioglu was shot several times before being rushed to hospital where he died a short time later.

The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Burwood Police started Strike Force Claypinch to investigate the incident in conjunction with investigations by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activity by organized crime networks across Sydney.

These investigations led detectives to execute a search warrant in Blair Athol around 6 a.m. Wednesday, as well as two other search warrants in homes in Mt Pritchard and Kemps Creek.

Detectives seized cannabis, cash, electronic devices and other items to undergo forensics during the raids.

The 25-year-old man was arrested at Blair Athol’s home and taken to Campbelltown Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

He was denied bail to appear in Campbelltown District Court later today.

Underworld figures claimed that Nazlioglu was the gunman who shot Mick Hawi outside a Fitness First Gym in Rockdale in February 2018.

Nazlioglu had been charged with Hawi’s murder, along with his friend and fellow Lone Wolf member Ahmad ‘Adam’ Doudar, 38.

He was accused of being the trigger man and Doudar was charged with throwing a getaway car.

Doudar pleaded guilty to complicity in Hawi’s murder and was sentenced to a non-parole period of three years and four months in prison.

After a week of deliberations, a jury found Nazlioglu not guilty of murder, but he subsequently pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of possession of a firearm and was sentenced to three years in prison.
