9 things to know before starting Minecraft Legends

A lot is happening in the world of Minecraft Legends at any time, and even with a series of tutorials that help you get into the RTS game more easily, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Dividing your time wisely between hunting Piglins, gathering resources and defending hapless villagers is key to saving the blocky realms. This Minecraft Legends tips on building, troop management and important settings make the process easier and more fun.

Build a diverse army

Golems are great, but they can’t do much. You’ll unlock more golem types, plus the option to recruit classic Minecraft critters, a little inside Minecraft Legendsand it’s worth experimenting with different combinations to make combat easier.

  • Stone golems are excellent for taking down enemy structures, but they won’t help much during an invasion.
  • Creepers and skeletons can’t easily destroy fortresses and walls, but they are more effective at dealing with enemy gangs than your wooden golems. Creepers explode after a short while, while skeletons can shoot arrows over walls.

Deposit your spawn points at the edge of your next battlefield and try a mixed army made up of different unit types to see what best suits your style and needs.

Always use resources

You have a strict limit on the number of resources you can collect during the first tutorial. Once that stage is over, however, you’re free to harvest as much wood, stone, and eventually iron and other resources as you can – and you should maximize it whenever you can. Building defenses and other structures in the field takes quite a bit of resources, and the last thing you want is to find yourself shortchanged when it matters most.

Once you arrive in a village or start a new journey, take a few seconds to place harvesting tools in resource-rich areas. In most cases, you get a few hundred of the resources you collect just after one round of harvesting. Make these collection methods a habit and you will never be short of material to build strong defenses.

Build in every village

You’ll spend as much time fighting Piglins out of villages as you do dismantling Nether Portals. Fortifying each village as you get there will make defending against enemy hordes much easier when the time comes. Once you have arrived in a new village, take some time to build walls, watchtowers and other fortifications around the entire perimeter.

Be creative too. Your standard square outline is certainly effective, but you could build a section of V-shaped walls that lead Piglins to a corner overseen by several watchtowers or a bridge that drops them into an enclosure.

Just make sure there is room for at least one gate so you can enter and exit the village.

Watchtowers are key

Speaking of watchtowers, this particular fortress is your most useful means of defense. They cover a wide area, deal heavy damage to Piglins, and just as importantly, distract enemies from knocking down walls or attacking villagers. You don’t even need a wall to build a watchtower. Pick several in a row and your village is almost defended.

Sacrifices must be made

That said, you can’t be everywhere at once. The world of Minecraft Legends moves at its own pace, so while you’re destroying a fortress or defending a village, another is likely to fall to the Piglin Army. It’s impractical to drop what you’re doing to save every village under attack, so you’ll just have to drop them every once in a while.

Good defenses can make villages last longer, but if Piglins overrun them, all you have to do is defeat every pig in a village’s borders to free it again. There’s also no time limit, so you’re free to put it off until you have time – or just ignore it completely.

Don’t hesitate to jump into the fray yourself

Creepers can put gangs to flight, but you yourself are the most effective force against hostile gangs. Your basic sword attack makes short work of lowly Piglins and more powerful enemies, and your attacks can distract enemies from your own gangs, giving them more freedom to tear down Piglin structures quickly.

If you get hurt, just run around for a few seconds and wait for your health to replenish. If you’re lucky, you can even lure Piglins into lava by crossing a bridge or jumping over a lava pool with a hostile mob in tow.

Use advanced banner controls

Your basic banner controls allow you to send all your followers to a point at once, but it’s often wiser to use the advanced controls and select only part of your army to charge further. You learn how to use it during the first attack on three Piglin fortresses and you should make good use of it from then on. Advanced controls give you more control over your mobs. You can gather a select number of soldiers and have them run in one direction, before gathering a Creeper squad to send into the middle of a Piglin mob and then sending a group of golems to take on a nearby structure. It’s generally just a more efficient way to run your army.

Check your settings

You automatically start with your build settings switched to hold, which forces you to hold down the build button while you set up your structure. It’s not the most convenient default setting, and it often makes building while moving more difficult than it should be. If you’re having a hard time, go to the controller or keyboard section of the menu to troubleshoot.

Build wells

You learn how to build pits on your first foray into a Nether Portal, and you should make it a point to build them regularly across the map. Wells are convenient resting places, but more importantly, they are also quick travel points. Normally you can only fast travel to a liberated village. Placing wells around the map will shorten travel time and make it even easier to defend villages.
