Draymond Green was thrown out of the Warriors’ first-round playoff loss to the Kings on Monday night, but the Golden State forward was adamant afterwards that he had done nothing wrong after stomping on Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis.

With about seven minutes left in the game, Malik Monk missed a shot for the Kings, and as Steph Curry grabbed the rebound and prepared to dribble to the other end, Sabonis held on to Green’s leg.

The four-time champion then stepped on the chest of the king’s big man, and Green was sent off with a flagrant foul of two, with Sabonis receiving a technical foul.

After the loss, which put the Warriors on a 2-0 hole in the series, Green retired long before apologizing.

“My leg was grabbed, the second time in two nights,” he told reporters. Referees are watching. I have to land my foot somewhere, and I’m not the most flexible person, so it doesn’t go that far. I can only walk as far as he pulls my leg away.’

“The explanation was that I was stomping too hard…I think ankle grabbing is okay.”

Green’s teammate Klay Thompson admitted after the game that he was wrong, but also questioned Sabonis’ conduct.

“What are you going to do if someone grabs your foot while you’re running at full speed?… That’s not cool.”

ESPN reported after the match that Sabonis underwent X-rays of his ribs/lungs, later reporting that the 26-year-old appeared to be avoiding injury.

In addition, the publication of the outlet Andscape reported that Green himself requested an X-ray of his right ankle, believing that the pain he was apparently feeling was related to Sabonis’s ankle grip.

Nevertheless, Sabonis will be the much happier of the two on Tuesday, as his Kings – already 17 years in the playoffs – defended the home court to take a 2-0 lead in the Golden State.

As for Green, his Monday night antics were nothing new.

He has been fined more than $1.2 million throughout his career for a series of indiscretions, and was infamously suspended for Game 5 of the Warriors’ 2016 Finals series loss vs. the Cavs after a flagrant foul in Game 4.

A suspension could certainly be in play this time as well, after he was ejected from Game 2.
