- This came after fans expressed their displeasure during the full-time whistle
Todd Boehly told Chelsea’s stars their season was ’embarrassing’ after the home defeat to Brighton – and manager Frank Lampard must now try to boost morale ahead of tonight’s decisive Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
The Chelsea owner made his way to the dressing room on Saturday and addressed the side after interim boss Lampard gave his team speech after the game.
As well as expressing his disappointment with how Chelsea’s season had turned out, Boehly sought to give Lampard’s players a head start into tonight’s quarter-final second leg, in which the Blues must make up a 2-0 deficit.
With Chelsea 11th in the Premier League after exiting the third round in both domestic cups, the Champions League represents their last chance to salvage the campaign.
A visit to Boehly’s dressing room is not uncommon, but the nature of his message raised eyebrows. Still, Lampard said: ‘I’m comfortable with that. I had my say after the game.
If the owner comes in and wants to be positive and talk to the players, then it’s his job to do that. It exudes passion and that’s the first thing I love.’
