Leeds 1-6 Liverpool: Mo Salah and Diogo Jota each score a brace alongside goals from Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez to keep Reds’ meager European hopes alive – and exacerbate hosts’ relegation worries
- Liverpool pounced on a series of defensive mistakes from Leeds at Elland Road
- Salah’s brace means he has scored the most left-footed Premier League goals
- Diogo Jota scored his first goals in 33 games as Luis Diaz returned from injury
Liverpool kept faint Champions League hopes alive with a 6-1 win over Leeds at Elland Road on Monday.
After a slow start, the game came to life towards the end of the first half as Cody Gakpo came in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross before Mohammed Salah broke the record for most left-footed goals in Premier League history.
Luis Sinisterra brought one back for Leeds just after half-time when he cheaply dispossessed Ibrahima Konate, but Diego Jota scored his first goal in 33 games soon after to make it 3–1.
Salah then completed a vintage Liverpool play just after the hour mark, and Jota got his second with just over 15 minutes to play with a nice volley. Substitute Darwin Nunez scored late for the record.
