Netflix viewers left ‘traumatised’ by ‘terrifying’ science fiction horror film Splice

Netflix users have declared themselves “traumatized for life” after watching the streaming service’s new horror movie Splice.

Despite its original release in 2010, the creepy sci-fi horror film has fans squirming in their seats after debuting on the streamer in late March.

The film focuses on a young scientific couple trying to introduce human DNA into their work of cutting animal genes.

After some success, Elsa and Clive, played by Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, are asked to abandon the experiment by the scientific agency they work for.

After Elsa insists they continue, they secretly follow their plans and develop a female being.

The hybrid – which has a tail and wings of nonspecific animal origin, and three-fingered hands – continues to age much faster than humans and develops mentally like a human child.

Elsa grows some attachment to the creature and names it Dren, and the pair act as the default parents.

However, after moving the creature to a remote farm, Dren becomes bored with the confinement, and this is when things start to go wrong.

One user commented on Twitter about the movie, “This movie made me physically sick.”

Another said, “Just watched Splice, I’ve never felt so disturbed in my life,” while a third said, “This movie will haunt me forever.”

“I was traumatized by this movie,” said one.

Another agreed: “I don’t know why they decided to make that traumatic movie available to everyone.”

While a sixth concluded: ‘The most screwed up movie I’ve ever seen. Divide. It’s on Netflix.”

A seventh added, “People on TikTok are just getting behind the movie Splice and besties, I’m still in therapy because of that ending. Please save yourself’.

Elsewhere on Netflix, viewers were so scared they couldn’t sleep after watching Haunted.

The anthology show focuses on the horror stories of people who have experienced strange paranormal activity – from a house of horrors to a demonic cat haunting a house with strange howls and hisses.

All three series are available to watch on the streaming platform, but fans of the show have said on Twitter that those who watch will be “terrified for the rest of your life.”

Each season has six episodes. In the first episode of series one, the narrator describes being revived by a defibrillator after being declared medically dead from dehydration and heat stroke.

Episode two, titled The Slaughterhouse, follows the story of two sisters who grow up terrified in a horror house, where their sadistic father does unimaginable things.

Those who watched it took to Twitter to warn others about the terrifying nature of the show.

“Watched too many #hauntednetflix and now I’m too scared to sleep,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Why was I watching #hauntednetflix right before bed. I mean, there are hundreds of shows I could have started from scratch, but here I am.’

A third viewer chimed in, “Okay, that last episode of season 2 Haunted, I was shocked! That face was so creepy! Omg I wanted to go to bed but no. Watch Fist of Fury first, so I have good dreams about Bruce Lee.”

While another said, “If you guys want to be terrified for the rest of your lives, watch #haunted on @netflix.”

However, others seemed to find the show amusing for its pointed plot holes and questioning of the “true story” disclaimers at the beginning of each episode.

One viewer wrote, “Some of these episodes have me wondering if anyone has contacted the police or the FBI… #haunted #hauntednetflix.”

Another added, “Why do I keep watching #Haunted, it’s horrible, the stories are all fake and can be easily explained with common sense and science.

“But damn with a glass of wine it’s fun to pull them apart and giggle at the silliness of episodes like Demon Cat!”
