Alec Baldwin calls for lawsuit filed by dead cinematographer’s parents and sister to be thrown out

Alec Baldwin has asked for the lawsuit brought by Halyna Hutchins’ parents and sister to be dropped after the cameraman died on the set of Rush.

The actor said that Hutchins’ parents and sister had distanced themselves from her “physically, financially and emotionally” years before her death.

Baldwin said in court documents filed Thursday that Olga Solovey, Anatolii Androsovych and Svetlana Zemko only filed the “misguided” lawsuit to “get damages” for Hutchins’ October 2021 death on the Rush film set outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

β€œThe loss of a daughter and sister is undoubtedly painful in any circumstance.

“Yet plaintiffs β€” who had distanced themselves physically, financially, and emotionally from Halyna for years before her death β€” have no viable cause for action against defendants,” the documents said. NBC news.

The lawsuit filed in February named Baldwin, gun maker Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, assistant director David Halls and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. as the defendants.

Attorney representing Hutchins’ parents and sister, Gloria Allred, reportedly said in a statement on Saturday that Baldwin, who called for the lawsuit to be dropped, showed that he was “once again trying to evade responsibility.”

She added that she and Hutchins’ family were there to make sure Baldwin was “held accountable for his actions.”

Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on October 21, 2021 at the Bonanza Creek Ranch while Baldwin was rehearsing with a gun for a scene, also wounding director Joel Souza after the bullet passed through Hutchins.

In January, both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter, and Baldwin has since vowed to fight the charges, calling them an “appalling miscarriage of justice.”

He and Rust gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed face up to 18 months in prison if convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Prosecutors allege that Baldwin pulled the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins, while Gutierrez-Reed failed to cause it to discharge.

Director Halls was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon and has agreed not to plead a contest, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said.

After settling the lawsuit last year, Mr Hutchins claimed he did not want any further ‘allegations’.

But in January, Hutchins’ family said they support Alec Baldwin facing manslaughter charges.

In his trial on Thursday, Baldwin said he felt the settlement “should have been the end of the matter.”

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 9.
