Pete Davidson returns to Saturday Night Live for his first time as a host

During the latest episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Ana de Armas, the late-night sketch comedy series revealed its next host: former SNL star Pete Davidson.

The 29-year-old comedian — who joined the cast of SNL at just 20 in 2014 — will host the May 6 episode with musical guest Lil Uzi Vert, via SNL Twitter.

It was revealed that Davidson would be leaving the show shortly before the season 47 finale in May 2022, with the funny man now returning as host a year later.

He’s promoting his new Peacock series Bupkis, loosely based on his own life, which debuts on the streaming service on May 4.

The series will go on hiatus for the next two weeks, though it’s unclear who will host the final episodes of Season 48 after Davidson’s episode.

Davidson’s career began on MTV’s Failosophy and Guy Code in 2013, before his stand-up special appeared on Comedy Central’s Gotham Comedy Live.

He also appeared on Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘n Out, Adam Devine’s House Party, and Comedy Undergroud with Dave Attell before being released on SNL.

The young comedian was given the chance to audition after impressing Bill Hader when he teamed up in Judd Apatow’s 2015 film Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer.

He quickly became one of the show’s breakout stars and was even given a flexible schedule for the show so that he could film other movies and TV shows.

The actor appeared in films like Big Time Adolescence, The Dirt and Jesus Rolls in 2019 and another semi-autobiographical project in 2020, The King of Staten Island.

Davidson also voices Phineas T. Phreakears in the Tubi animated series The Freak Brothers and appeared as Blackguard in the 2021 superhero film The Suicide Squad.

He had a busy year in 2022 starring in movies I Want You Back and Bodies Bodies Bodies while also voicing the title character in Marmaduke.

The comedian also appeared in three episodes of The Rookie, an episode of The Kids in the Hall and Who Killed Santa? A Murderville Murder Mystery.

The actor is currently filming the horror thriller The Home, in which he plays a janitor named Max who finds out that the residents and other caretakers of his retirement home are hiding sinister secrets.

Davidson’s new series Bupkis follows his character, “as he tries to work through the unique family dynamics and complexities of fame to form meaningful relationships.”
