New York Red Bulls midfielder Daniel Edelman spoke candidly after the game, explaining that the team does not “tolerate” racism, with the group using the aftermath of striker Dante Vanzeir’s suspension for using racist language as a time to “get together” to come’.

The 19-year-old was philosophical with reporters following Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Houston, which saw all three groups of supporters walk out in protest at what they believed was a lenient six-game suspension handed to Vanzeir, and coach Gerhard Struber’s approach to the situation.

“Of course we dealt with it in training and we don’t tolerate that as a team and we all try to grow out of it and we want to train everyone,” said Edelman.

“We want to continue to develop as a team and regain those relationships. That’s the most important thing, team bonding and team chemistry.

“What happened definitely brought everyone’s morale down, but right now we’re looking at the current situation and coming together as a team and [we will] Keep it up.
