Soccer fans at St Louis vs Cincinnati are sent to TORNADO SHELTERS inside MLS stadium

Football fans at St. Louis’s MLS game against Cincinnati were rushed to tornado shelters Saturday night as dangerous weather battered the stadium, threatening to wreak havoc on the city.

The game was postponed and officials urged fans to take shelter in the stadium shortly after 7:30 p.m., when a tornado was confirmed and sighted heading toward St. Louis.

Two hours later, fans were still huddled in waiting for the weather to end, and it was unclear if the game would go ahead as planned.

Among those seeking shelter in St. Louis, Missouri, was former American football star Marcelo Balboa, a defenseman with 127 caps for the national team.

Balboa is currently an analyst for MLS Season Pass, but his on-air duties were halted by the weather and he shared video of the tornado passing right by the stadium.

Alongside the clip, he showed a selfie of himself and his fellow journalists in the bowels of the stadium as they waited for more news after being sent to tornado shelters.

On social media, local residents posted terrifying images of the storm passing by, as well as “pea-sized” hailstones, as sirens wailed through the city.

In a statement on the team’s website, further details were released to fans in attendance, asking them to head to the marked ‘storm shelters’ in CityPark.

It was explained that the St. Louis SC MLS Stadium is a “StormReady Facility as designated by the National Weather Service,” then revealed that “a site-specific meteorologist is available to monitor severe weather, including high winds and lightning strikes.”
