Love Is Blind’s Kwame defends his altar decision with Chelsea

Love Is Blind’s drama-filled wedding episode aired Friday, eventually revealing which couples said “I do” and which said “I don’t” in explosive scenes.

During the first wedding, Kwame Appiah and Chelsea Griffin overcame their ups and downs on the Netflix reality TV show, sweetly saying “I do” at the altar.

The couple was over the moon as they celebrated their nuptials, with their friends and family jumping out of their seats to cheer as they showed their support.

But Kwame later took to his Instagram to defend their relationship after claiming fans had said they had “no chemistry” and criticized them for tying the knot.

In an impassioned post, he hit back at the criticism, saying that while he didn’t “blame” viewers for thinking their romance was fake, there was plenty going on behind the scenes.

He shared a series of photos of him and Chelsea in love, writing, “All of this content was shot during our engagement, when the big cameras weren’t on us.

“We should enjoy life and communicate in the way that feels most natural to us. Just a quick response to someone saying “they don’t have chemistry,” or “they don’t even like each other”… based on what you saw, I don’t blame you for thinking that.

“But actually we had the MOST fun falling in love together!”

His gushing post and comments from his Love Is Blind co-stars also hinted that Kwame and Chelsea are still together, after their wedding was filmed in May 2022.

His co-star Brett Brown described their relationship in the present tense as he wrote, “Nice post Kwame!

“What’s shown on TV is such a boiled down version of all our relationships, good and bad. Glad you’re showing off your relationship on your terms.”

Meanwhile, Bliss Poureetezadi added: ‘Team Kwame and Chelsea forever!! We see your beautiful relationship every time we are together. What a beautiful couple!’

On the morning of their wedding, an excited Chelsea compared herself to a child on Christmas morning.

She stated, “I’ve spent my whole life preparing to marry a man like Kwame.”

During the ceremony, she told her nervous bridegroom, “You are my moon’s jaguar.” I am the moon for your jaguar.

“I love you and I’m ready for the greatest adventure of life with you as your wife.”

In a sweet moment, the overjoyed couple both said yes and shared a sweet kiss as their family and friends celebrated.

Chelsea and Kwame had their ups and downs on the show, having formed a fast-paced romantic bond in the pods.

Chelsea was quick to express her feelings, but Kwame also bonded with co-star Micah Lussier and shared his desire to propose to her.

When Micah chose to get to know Paul, a devastated Kwame decided to pursue his connection with Chelsea one more time before finally proposing.

After going to Mexico for their “honeymoon,” Chelsea was left annoyed with Kwame as he shared a lengthy and flirtatious conversation with Micah at the pool, but Kwame insisted there was nothing romantic there.

The pair then struggled to decide where to live, as Kwame made his views of Seattle clear and shared his affection for his Portland flat.

However, he insisted that he would “compromise” Chelsea and move out, despite describing Seattle as “too expensive” as the couple continued to plan their wedding.

They also struggled with Kwame’s mother not approving of their romance, with Kwame admitting he didn’t know if he could go through their wedding day without it.

However, his siblings did show up to show their support for him and his sister was seen gifting Chelsea a handbag before walking down the aisle, causing her to burst into tears.

Chelsea and Kwame return to screens for Love Is Blind: The Live Reunion and reflect on their journey on the show, as well as their marriage since filming.

In a first for the show, the reunion episode will air live on Netflix, with viewers able to tune in and watch the action as it happens.

In previous years, the reunion episode has been pre-recorded before airing on Netflix after the series finale, and is usually followed by more catch-up episodes called After The Altar.
