Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will return to Australia in two weeks for her first official visit in a decade.

The Hobart-born royal family, 51, will return to their home country on April 28 to meet with Danish representatives involved in Australia’s “green transition”, while also visiting several Danish-led sustainability projects.

Her climate-focused journey will begin in Vanuatu on April 23, where she will meet with key figures leading the island’s reconstruction after it was hit by two cyclones and two earthquakes.

She will then travel to Fiji with the Danish Climate Minister, where the country is struggling with the consequences of global climate change.

The trip was announced on Friday on the official Instagram account of the Danish royal family.

Princess Mary’s visit to Down Under will be short-lived, however, as she will be in London for the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.

The last time the Crown Princess was in Australia was last Christmas when she visited her family in Tasmania, but it was not in an official capacity.

She went to her hometown with her husband, Crown Prince Frederick and their four children, Christian, 17, Isabella, 15, and twins Vincent and Josephine, 11.

The last time Princess Mary was on an official trip to Australia was in 2013 when she went to the Sydney Opera House with her husband Prince Frederick.

However, this was a private trip and no public appointments were held, so her trip at the end of this month will be her first official visit since 2013.

The family’s Christmas holiday was their first time Down Under in over five years, but Princess Mary was spotted in Melbourne without her family in March 2022 while shopping with her friend and bridesmaid Amber Petty.

Princess Mary and Prince Frederick’s last official visit was in October 2013, when they visited the Sydney Opera House to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Although she was born and raised in Tasmania, Mary has lived in Denmark since she married the heir to the Danish throne.

The pair met at the 2000 Olympics held in Australia, and despite a story circulating that they bumped into each other at a bar, Princess Mary’s maid of honor Amber said it was actually at an exclusive dinner party .

“I’m sorry to break everyone’s heart, but it’s not always about randomly bumping into princes in pubs,” she told Channel 7’s Sunrise in August 2020.

“It wasn’t just a random meeting…it was a staged little dinner during the Olympics and Mary happened to be invited and most of the guests were royals.”
