Home security cameras have captured the extraordinary moment when a wild deer jumped fences and crashed through a glass swimming pool gate in one of Melbourne’s wealthiest suburbs.
CCTV footage shows the deer leaping over the fence of a house in East Kew, about 6 miles north-east of the town’s CBD, before crashing into the glass panel on Friday morning.
Former Melbourne Football Club chairman Gabriel Szondy said the deer jumped his six-foot fence and ran through his backyard before leaping over his neighbour’s fence where it broke the gate.
Mr Szondy said the deer appeared to be around 1.7m in length and suspected it came from nearby Willsmere Park, on the Yarra River, where locals claim there are ‘hundreds’ of deerskins.

“I was letting in some tragis and suddenly a shadow comes streaking past and the bar said to me, ‘that’s a damn deer,'” Mr Szondy told the Herald Sun.
“We have two dogs, a 1 year old goldie (golden retriever) and a 10 year old goldie and they went berserk, they were in and obviously made the deer even more scared.
“He bolted the back fence into our back neighbor’s yard—that back fence from the ground is probably eight feet high.”
“He jumped over it and slightly damaged the fence, it’s leaning a little.”
The deer was later seen being chased by locals in Elm Grove, possibly on its way back to Willsmere Park.
The deer was still on the run Friday evening.
Bewildered viewers online expressed concern for the deer.

“I hope the deer is okay, poor thing,” another person remarked.
“I didn’t even know we had deer in Australia,” a third person wrote.
Others saw the funny side,
“Deer might need some Panadol after that hit,” one joked.
‘Oh deer-y me,’ said another.
