Sam Smith is slammed for ‘satanic’ and ‘age inappropriate’ Gloria tour

Sam Smith has been criticized for even more “satanic” and “age-inappropriate” performances on their Gloria tour that kicked off this week.

The singer, 30, who is non-binary and uses she/they pronouns, dressed in a range of sassy looks, including as a devil with red horns before transforming into nipple tassels and fishnets.

While dismissing the reaction to their recent “satanic” performance from the BRITs, they clutched a red sequined pitchfork as fire burned around them as the band played.

Known for referencing religious imagery in their performances, the Unholy hitmaker wore a black bustier, fishnet tights and over-the-knee boots with red laces.

But after videos of the tour show circulated online, some were quick to criticize it for being oversexual, satanic and inappropriate for young fans in the audience.

They donned an array of edgy and eye-catching costumes as they put on a very energetic performance and released their smash hits.

They completed their edgy ensemble with a black hooded coat with huge puff sleeves that fell over their shoulders.

Sam then stripped down to black underwear, fishnet tights and black boots as they went shirtless as they performed a cover of Madonna’s hit Human Nature.

They wore elbow-length gloves and draped a long translucent veil over their shoulders, which was fastened on their heads with a headpiece in the form of a golden thread.

They later changed into a very extravagant pink tulle dress with ruffles, which they wore in their I’m Not Here To Make Friends music video.

Sam was joined on stage by a series of backup dancers, wearing sheer glittering silver ensembles and waving pink fans at the star.

In another look, Sam dressed in an emerald green dress with puff sleeves and matching gloves as they sang with “Queer” written in ribbons above.

Sam also donned a white shirt and black tie, which they paired with striking gold trousers and a matching jeweled corset.

They completed the dazzling look with a gold sailor-style hat as they performed alongside an array of backing singers.

Sam has embarked on their Gloria tour and will be performing in London next week, before heading to Europe in May for a series of shows.

It’s not the first time Sam has used religious-inspired imagery in their performances, prompting 100 Ofcom complaints to the BRITs.

They performed their new hit single Unholy alongside Kim Petras, 30, at London’s O2 Arena in February.

Sam dressed up as the devil, complete with horns coming out of their hats, a similar look to the one they wore at the Grammys the week before.

An Ofcom spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We received 106 complaints about the Brit Awards on ITV1 on 11 February.

“The majority of the complaints were about Sam Smith’s performance, the rest about the use of abusive language and alcohol consumption.”

It came just a week after Grammy viewers criticized Sam and Kim for their “satanic” performance of Unholy.

Sam was seen donning satanic headgear in the horror movie-inspired performance, viewers flocked to social media to share their frustrations with the “demonic” themes.

One tweeted, “I know on the right we probably overuse the word satanic, but this Sam Smith performance is literally a tribute to Satan.”

Another added: “You don’t have to be super religious to be disturbed by Sam Smith’s devil-worshiping performance.”

One viewer commented, “That Sam Smith performance was weird, I had to look away, why were artists so obsessed with the devil????”

After the performance, host Trevor Noah immediately joked that the satanic themes would outrage some viewers.

While pretending to be on the phone with his mother, he was heard to say, “No, Mom, it wasn’t the real devil… Yeah, you warned me about Hollywood.”
