Channel Nine’s Today show has confirmed three new hosts as they completely overhaul their lineup

Channel Nine’s Weekend Today shakeup: Jayne Azzopardi and Clint Stanaway have been confirmed as the new hosts for the breakfast show replacing Richard Wilkins and Belinda Russell

Weekend Today has been given a fresh new look with three new hosts confirmed for the Channel Nine weekend breakfast programme.

The network announced on Friday that Jayne Azzopardi and Clint Stanaway are the show’s new hosts, with Sophie Walsh as newsreader and Dan Anstey as weather presenter.

Azzopardi, Stanaway and Walsh replace recent hosts Richard Wilkins, Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher.

“I’m a sports veteran, Jayne loves politics and I love Sophie’s sass and humor,” Stanaway said in a statement.

And we all come from different parts of the country. I am unashamedly a Melbourne man, Jayne is from the Sydney shire and Sophie is a Queenslander at heart and I love that about us. And I think that really shows on our show.”

He added: “We’ve known each other as colleagues for a long time.”

Stanaway started his career with Nine in 2005 before moving to London in 2007 to work as a European correspondent.

He worked in news before moving into sports.

Meanwhile, Azzopardi joined Nine in 2009 as a political journalist in Canberra, before joining the Sydney newsroom in 2011. She was also previously a newscaster for Weekend Today.

“We’re good listeners, and I’m really excited to show people’s stories,” Stanaway continued.

“There’s no question, I think both of us, and Sophie too, we want to bring a relaxed vibe to the show and have some fun, but besides entertaining people, we know we have a responsibility to keep people informed hold. also.’

Azzopardi added: ‘Because during the week everyone is in such a hurry to get the kids to school and get out to work. Everything slows down on weekends.’

“So you can have us on TV while you’re having your breakfast and you’re having your coffee and there’s going to be interesting conversations and maybe also help you understand things that happened during the week that you’ve heard about but you haven’t yet really had a chance to read a lot about it because it’s too busy.’

Last month, Belinda Russell shocked viewers when she also announced her departure on Weekend Today.

‘Hello friends. A little career update for you,” she captioned her Instagram post on March 5.

My time on Weekend Today has come to an end. Thanks to those who tuned in. I hope I brought some sunshine and joy to your weekends.

“I have enjoyed the past year and look forward to future opportunities at Nine. Good luck to the team for 2023 and beyond!’
