California State Capitol in Sacramento to be evacuated after police warn of ‘credible threat’ to building

  • Lawmakers at the state capitol building warned of a ‘credible threat’
  • The building is being evacuated after the California Highway Patrol issued a warning
  • Legislators and staffers who had not yet reported for work were told to stay home

The California Highway Patrol has notified lawmakers in Sacramento of a credible threat involving the Capitol.

The CHP and other security agents are surrounding the Capitol and have ordered legislators and employees not yet in the Capitol to work from home today.

As a result, the California senators’ floor session scheduled for this morning has been postponed and lawmakers have been told to sign up for the session in another building.

Legislators and staffers already at work were told to remain in place until more information became available.

The message received Thursday morning by all staffers and state legislators

Security agents were seen turning people away from the door of the Capitol. However, it remains quiet for now and business will resume in a separate building.

Meanwhile, a protest is taking place on the west side of the building as planned.

Local reports suggest the threat may have come from a gunman in Kaiser Roseville who threatened to shoot down the California State Capitol last night.

On Wednesday night, the birthing center at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Roseville was hit by gunfire just before 9 p.m.

No one was hit and no injuries were reported – the hospital lockdown was lifted shortly after 10pm. No suspicious information has been released.

It was later confirmed that there had previously been a shooting in Citrus Heights related to the Kaiser shooting.

About 15 minutes before the Roseville shooting, an unknown person was driving a vehicle along Auburn Boulevard, when they reportedly fired several shots. The vehicle then continued to Roseville.

There were no injuries and no buildings were hit in Citrus Heights.
