Twitter has a new topper. Because according to Elon Musk, his pet shiba inu Floki now runs the social media giant.
The billionaire made the bizarre claim in an impromptu interview with the BBC on Tuesday night.
He later tweeted a faked photo of Floki sitting at a desk for a contract signed with a paw print.
Musk admitted he has had a “rollercoaster” of six months since his £38bn takeover of Twitter, aggressively cutting costs and laying off 80 per cent of staff in a bid to balance the books.
He has often dismissed claims that he has fomented disinformation and hate speech, and has responded to critics by mocking them online.

But in a show of vulnerability, he admitted to the BBC that the process had been stressful, adding: “This hasn’t been kind of a party.”
He admitted that his tendency to cause trouble on Twitter in the early morning hours may not have helped.
“Did I shoot myself in the foot multiple times with tweets? Yes. I need bulletproof boots right now,” he told BBC journalist James Clayton.
“I don’t think I should tweet after 3am.”
But the second richest man in the world then claimed that Floki had taken over the boss. He repeatedly corrected Clayton when he called him the CEO, saying, “I’m not Twitter’s CEO. My dog is the CEO of Twitter. He’s a great dog, very alert, and it’s hard to get anything with him.’
The joke is said to have started after a poll Musk conducted in December in which he asked users whether he should step down as CEO.

Musk claimed he stuck to the result and installed Floki as boss. Yesterday he posted a tweet showing the dog, dressed in a black turtleneck with CEO written on the chest, sitting behind a desk. It was captioned, “Twitter’s new CEO is awesome.”
Last week, he also replaced Twitter’s bird logo with a photo of Floki. In his interview, Musk addressed the controversy over Twitter labeling the BBC’s main account as “government-funded media,” adding that he knew the company was “not happy” with the tag.
He said he had “great respect” for the broadcaster and the label would be changed to “government funded”.
A self-confessed workaholic, Musk confirmed that he sometimes sleeps on a couch in a library at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters. He said the company was now “roughly breaking even,” could return to profitability soon, and that he would be open to selling to the right person.
