Four killed in ‘firing incident’ at India military station

At least four dead in what the Indian army calls a ‘fire incident’ at a military station in the western state of Punjab.

A “fire incident” has killed four people at a military station in the Indian border state of Punjab, the army said, adding that a search was underway.

“The station’s rapid response teams were activated. The area was cordoned off and sealed,” the army said in a statement on Wednesday. “Searches are underway. Further details are being determined.”

An unknown number of gunmen were still at large at the Bathinda military station carrying ammunition, a defense source told Reuters, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the case.

The incident occurred at 4:35 a.m. (2305 GMT), the statement said.

The military station, located about six hours north of the capital New Delhi, mainly houses families of soldiers and is a residential army base.
