One person is dead and three injured after a gunman opened fire on a Washington DC funeral home.
The shooting occurred outside the Stewart Funeral Home shortly after a service for 24-year-old Stephon Lamont Carroll.
As mourners left the funeral home around 12:18 p.m., the gunman opened fire. He fled in a green vehicle and remains a fugitive.
At a news conference this afternoon, DC Police Chief Robert Contee said Carroll had also been killed as a result of gun violence.

It remains unclear what the motive was for today’s shooting at his funeral, and Chief Contee gave no further details about how Carroll died on March 24.

“Their loved one died as a result of gun violence.
“Someone decided not to respect the family at this level and committed this senseless act of violence at this boy’s funeral,” said Chief Contee.
The family had asked police to attend the funeral because they feared an incident, he added.
The shooting comes just a day after a gunman in Louisville, Kentucky, killed five people before being killed in a shootout with police.
Earlier this month, teenage gunman Audrey Hale opened fire at Covenant School in Nashville, killing three young children and three adults before being shot dead by police.
The scene is now closed. At least one person has been killed
