Influencer breaks down in tears over backlash for buying house at 21

An influencer sobbed to her TikToK followers when she faced backlash for boasting that she bought her first home at age 21.

Katylee Bailey, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, recently posted a video celebrating being able to buy a house and being mortgage free despite her young age.

She held a champagne bottle with confetti in it, which she popped before cheering, captioning the clip: “Greatest achievement of my life.” To my new chapter.’

But not everyone was happy, with some users saying they work full time and can’t afford to be homeowners.

One commenter wrote: ‘So sad that the people who work least get this and people who risk their lives can barely afford heating.’

Another commented, “Luckily, here I pay 2,000 rent every month because I don’t qualify for a mortgage despite working 40 hours a week.”

Katylee then made a second video of herself sobbing to her followers about the comments she had received.

She said, “Just wanted to say I’m sorry to anyone who feels like I’m bragging about the house thing.

“Yeah, the system is absolutely f***ed, I’ll never understand how lucky I was.”

The Telegraph and Argus reported that Katylee first started her TikTok “as a bit of fun” but now earns up to £1,000 per video she posts. She dropped out of college to pursue social media as her full-time career.

Katylee continued by saying, “But believe it or not, as much as some of you may not want to understand this, I actually work and let me tell you something, social media is so mentally draining.

“I know there are many people who are doing their best. I’ve been really lucky with social media.

“And yes, my family has given me a great life. But I was not raised with money, so to be able to achieve something so great at 21 years old, I am so grateful.

“I’m not bragging, I’m so proud of myself. I think if someone else had the chance, they would.’

Katylee split with another TikTok influencer, Grace Waites, last month after they decided to end their 21-month relationship.

She continued, “It’s like people think I’m not human or something, there are actually other things going on in my life and I’m getting knocked down for something I’m really so proud of.

She then wiped some tears from her eyes and said ‘sorry’, half giggling.

Katylee continued by saying, ‘I’d like to say a massive shout out to all my family and friends and supporters.

“It is thanks to everyone’s love and support that I have been able to get to where I am today.

“Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don’t put someone else down to make yourself feel better.

“Unfortunately, in this day and age it’s like people are saying think smarter, not harder, and I still can’t get over how lucky I was.”

She went on to say, “If you don’t like it don’t watch it because I’m going to build IKEA flat packs tomorrow and guess what?” I’m recording it.
