Texas AG Paxton slams ‘Soros-backed’ prosecutor after jury convicts Fort Hood soldier of killing a BLM demonstrator who aimed AK-47 at him – as Gov. Abbott says he is working to get him ‘quickly’ to grant grace

  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Travis County District Attorney José Garza had “armed the justice system” to follow liberal agendas
  • Governor Greg Abbott said he is working to pardon a US Army sergeant, Sgt. Daniel Perry, convicted of murder for fatally shooting an armed protester
  • Perry was convicted of shooting 28-year-old Garrett Foster, who approached Perry’s car with an AK-47 rifle. Perry’s lawyers had claimed self-defense

The Texas attorney general slammed the district attorney who helped convict a US Army sergeant of murder after he shot a Black Lives Matter protester who pointed an AK-47 at him.

Attorney General Ken Paxton lashed out at Travis County DA José Garza, saying he had “armed the judicial system” and intimidated it for the “racial agenda” of liberal gangs and extremist groups.

On Friday, a jury in the district of Garza convicted Sgt. Daniel Perry of the 2020 murder of 28-year-old Garrett Foster. Perry could face life for the conviction.

Paxton also berated Garza for funding he had received from billionaire George Soros, saying he had criminalized personal liberties, such as the “God-given right” to self-defense.

It comes as Governor Greg Abbott has said he wants to pardon Perry, saying he has asked the Board of Pardons and Paroles to expedite his request for a pardon so he can sign it “once it’s on my desk.”

In a statement to Fox News, Paxton delivered a strongly worded rebuttal to Garza’s conviction of Perry.

Self-defense is a God-given right, not a crime. Unfortunately, the Soros-backed Travis County District Attorney cares more about the radical agenda of dangerous Antifa and BLM gangs than about justice,” he said.

“This week has shown us how rogue prosecutors have armed the justice system. They must be stopped!’

The Fort Hood Army Sgt. drove his car as Uber that night to make extra money, when he tried to get through a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters.

Part of the crowd of protesters was Foster, who aimed his AK-47 into the window of Perry’s car, after which the soldier opened fire, killing him.

Both men’s guns were obtained legally, with jurors in Austin claiming that Perry had other, non-lethal means of self-defense at his disposal.

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be overturned by a jury or progressive prosecutor,” Abbott said.

Garza told Fox News that he felt Paxton should focus on his own “own legal issues,” referring to his pending indictment on securities fraud allegations in 2015.

The Texas Attorney General is currently facing felony charges and a federal criminal investigation. He should be focusing on his own legal issues rather than interfering with the work of a Travis County jury,” Garza said.
