Liverpool are preparing a £70 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were keen on the France international last summer before his move to the Spanish capital and are now chasing the 23-year-old again.

Tchouameni has impressed in Spain this season and has already won a club World Cup winners’ medal, while English fans will remember the goal he scored in last year’s World Cup quarter-final against the Three Lions.

Despite only joining Real for £70 million last summer, he could now get back to work El National Liverpool intend to make a similar offer to bring him to Anfield.

They also report that Tchouameni has been adjusting to life in Madrid ‘more slowly than expected’, but is thought of a lot by the club’s hierarchy, who may not be ready to let him go.

Liverpool are closely linked with another exciting young midfielder in Jude Bellingham, but it remains to be seen if they can secure his signature amid interest from the likes of Real and Manchester City.

Whoever they bring in, improving their midfield will be vital for Liverpool if they are to rebuild next year after a disastrous 2021/22 season.

After beating Manchester United 7-0 a month ago, they lost three games in a row before picking up a point from a toothless performance against Chelsea.

They are currently 13 points clear of the Champions League and in eighth place, but can work their way up to seventh with a strong win against league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

Klopp stressed that the focus is on individual matches rather than when his side will land well, as he said ahead of the Arsenal clash: “It’s not about what I might consider – it’s about what we get. I don’t know where we’ll end up.

“I know we have to get through this. Then there will be a new start, because it is a new season. That is a huge challenge in this (modern) world. Twenty years ago it was not easy and now it is almost impossible.

Imagine if we lose the next 10 games and I’m still saying, ‘Next season we’ll turn it around!’ – it would be hard to believe.

“Whether we get a result or not, we’ll see, but I think this club has the chance to get through this situation in a stylish way,” he added. And frankly, I don’t care what we’ve done in the past.

“It’s not about the top six for us. We have to win a game and then another and then another. We need to find our best performance on the field again. It’s hidden somewhere, we have to let it out.’
