Former Sky F1 presenter Johnny Herbert has been outspoken about his departure from the broadcaster, admitting he was left in the dark about the decision as the reasoning was never explained to him.

In January it was revealed that after 11 years with the broadcaster, Herbert had been suspended from Sky Sports’ coverage of Formula 1 ahead of the 2023 season.

Now he’s broken his silence and revealed that he was blinded by his axe, and it’s still unclear what the reasons for the decision are.

Speak against The mirrorhe said, “I didn’t decide to leave – I thought everything was going on!”

“And then I got a call in December, I think, when I was told things were going to change.

“It was not explained why or what changed. Something was said about social media and that was pretty much it. I do not really know.’

The presenter continued to reveal that he is “over it” and is moving forward with his career despite the disappointment.

“I was always aware of it – at Sky they do these subscriber checks where you get points out of 10 – and I always knew I was always quite popular on that side,” he said.

“I’m sorry, but I’m over it. To proceed.’

Since leaving Sky, Herbert has started his own podcast expressing his views on F1 stories, and has admitted that despite his departure from Sky there are still opportunities for him within the F1 scene.

He said: “There are other options, proving once again that if you work hard you can find other ways to stay involved in the sport we love.”

However, he won’t be returning to viewers’ TV screens any time soon, he revealed.

“I did my 11 years with Sky and it was good,” continued Herbert. “Now there are other things I do. As it was December it was all quite late to arrange other things.

“There are many other possibilities, but as far as I’m concerned seeing on a TV screen, there’s probably nothing planned on that front.”
