Grant Peasley, a Queensland man, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in critical condition on April 2 after an alleged dispute at his home in The Pines, near Milmerran in Darling Downs state.
The 56-year-old “suffered a significant injury to his hand” after being beaten at 9:30 pm with a long-bladed weapon, allegedly wielded by the son of the woman who lived with him.
Police initially charged 25-year-old son, Jayden Wade Doyle, with grievous bodily harm before the charge was upgraded to attempted murder.
The cargo was upgraded again on Thursday.
A 25-year-old Dubbo man who was initially charged with the incident has now been charged with murder (domestic violence), Queensland Police said in a statement.
Emergency services were called to the scene by a neighbor after Mr Doyle’s mother ran to their home after the alleged attack and warned them.

At a press conference on Thursday, Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker of the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch confirmed that the alleged attack was “unprovoked.”
‘He [Mr Doyle] stayed at The Pines address for several days prior to the incident,” Mr McCusker said.
An unprovoked attack occurred when the 25-year-old man demanded the car keys.
“At that stage, Mr. Peasley suffered serious injuries which clearly caused his death.”
Mr Peasley died late Wednesday as a result of his injuries.
Mr Doyle’s mother was present during the alleged attack and has spoken to police to help them with their investigation.
Mr. Doyle is said to have fled the scene after the attack and was found a short time later at a BP service station 12 miles away on the Gore Highway at Captains Mountain.
