American comedian Will Flanary’s brutally honest review of Australia
The American comedian’s brutally honest review of Australia and why he wasn’t too impressed with the Blue Mountains
He is best known for his hilarious TikTok videos that target the US health system.
But Will Flanary, aka Dr. Glaucomflecken, switched things up this week and gave a brutally honest review of his Australia.
The 37-year-old doctor, who is currently enjoying his first visit to Down Under with his wife Kristin and their two children, revealed what he liked most about the country and the landmark that failed to impress him.
Flanary said he liked how Australians were, “like to make fun of themselves and others, but in a light-hearted way.”
While impressed by the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge, he admitted he was confused after visiting the famous Blue Mountains.
‘…they aren’t mountains, by the way. The scenery was fantastic, but it was really a hill!’ he told News.com’s I have news for you podcast.
He also admitted to being confused by the way Aussies use the ‘sidewalk’.
“I can’t stop bumping into people,” he said. “I don’t know which side to walk on.”
Meanwhile, Will described Sydney as very pretty and ‘very clean’ while finding Adelaide ‘laid back’.
The Texas-born ophthalmologist said the highlight of his trip so far has been watching the AFL game between Adelaide and Port Adelaide on Saturday.

“Australia’s hunger for sports that cause physical harm is a real thing,” he joked, after witnessing the intensely physical last weekend.
“I think I could live to be 100 years old and never understand cricket,” he added.
Before coming to Australia, Will posted a TikTok video that took the mickey out of well-known social media myths that characterized the country as a place full of exotic and deadly animals, insects and plants.
At one point in the video, Will is warned about Drop Bears – a mythical animal that lives in trees and attacks unsuspecting tourists.
While impressed by the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge, he admitted he was confused after visiting the famous Blue Mountains.
“Is there anything in Australia that doesn’t kill me?” asks Will’s alter ego Dr. Glaucomflecken during the clip.
Will has dealt with serious health issues in the past.
After surviving testicular cancer twice, Will went into cardiac arrest out of the blue in 2020, and his wife, Kristin, saved his life by performing CPR.
First diagnosed with testicular cancer when he was 25, he described the diagnosis as “really difficult” – mainly because he was healthy and athletic at the time and didn’t see it coming – and remembered everything “collapsing down on him”.
