When will the Mario movie come to Netflix and streaming?
Mario made the leap to the big screen again on Wednesday with The Super Mario Bros. movie. While the beloved plumber is one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time, his appearances in movies are more limited. This time around, he and his friends get the star treatment complete with a full cast of A-list celebrities paired with a stunningly animated feature from Illumination, the same studio known for making the Minions movies.
Many people who grew up playing Mario games may be curious about the movie, but may not want to spend the money for movie tickets or buy a physical copy. Luckily for Mario fans, Illumination movies have hit several streaming services after theatrical release in the past, including Netflix, so here’s everything we know about when and where to stream the new Mario movie. As more confirmed dates come in, we will update this post.
When is the Mario movie coming coming to Netflix?
Although we don’t have a confirmed date for when The Super Mario Bros. movie coming to Netflix, Illumination parent company Universal a deal with Netflix seeing their movies arrive on the streaming service after a minimum of four months on Peacock.
We can watch other recent movies from Illumination like Minions: The Rise of Gruas an example giving us a possible release timeline. Rise of Gru streamed exclusively on Peacock in September 2022, and then came to Netflix about seven months after its theatrical release. Given this timeline, The Super Mario Bros. movie will likely be available to stream on Netflix sometime in October or November 2023.
Shall The Super Mario Bros. movie coming to other streaming services?
As mentioned above, Illumination’s previous movies are like Minions: The Rise of Grucame exclusively to Peacock first. Rise of Gru was available to stream exclusively on Peacock approximately three months after its release. Given this information, we could expect that The Super Mario Bros. movie will be available to stream on Peacock sometime this summer, likely in the months of June or July 2023.
The film will also be available to rent or buy digitally in front of the Peacock window.
