Friend of Yanco wife who died in car accident along with three kids is charged with DV

The friend of a woman who was killed in a horrific car accident along with three children has been charged with domestic violence crimes, alleged to have occurred shortly before the tragedy.

Tania Murphy, 36, was driving near the intersection of Research Road and Toorak Road in Yanco, near Leeton in southern NSW, around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, with two of her three children, Nathaniel, 11, and Jeremiah, 10, and her cousin, 12 .

All four died after the mother’s Hyundai hatchback hit a pole and then plunged off an embankment into a water channel before landing upside down.

On Wednesday, Murphy’s friend Dean Ingram, 32, and his mother Wendy Chattaway, 50, were arrested as part of an investigation into the fatal accident. She has since been released without charge.

While no charges have been brought in relation to the fatal accident, Mr Ingram is charged with two counts of stalking with intent to harm, and one count of aggravated burglary.

“Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District have been told that the back door of a house in Cudgel Street, Yanco, was kicked in shortly after 11pm Tuesday (4 April 2023) and a resident was threatened,” NSW Police said in a statement. a statement.

“About 15 minutes later, a vehicle traveling down Research Road went off the road and crashed, killing a 36-year-old woman and three boys, aged 10, 11 and 12.”

He was denied bail to appear in Griffith local court on Thursday.

Mrs. Murphy and the three boys, who lived just 2 miles from the crash site in Yanco, died on the scene before the ambulance arrived.

Daily Mail Australia can also reveal that Ms Murphy has a nine-year-old daughter who was not in the vehicle at the time of the devastating crash.

Police cordoned off Mrs Murphy’s home on Wednesday, which is owned by the Leeton and Districts Aboriginal Corporation.

Mark Sins, a close friend of the family, told Daily Mail Australia that thankfully Ms Murphy’s daughter was not in the car at the time.

He said Mrs. Murphy was in a relationship with his brother, who is not the children’s father.

‘The kids were beautiful and Mum was great to me – always on my guard and saying ‘are you okay? ‘,’ he said.

She gave me a roof over my head.

‘[My brother] was happy and seeing him now hurts.’

Julieanne Abraham, who says she is Mrs. Murphy’s best friend, told her to tell the dead woman’s daughter that she had died.

“She’s been the best mother, best friend and best lady I’ve ever met,” said Mrs. Abraham.

“I didn’t talk to her until yesterday and I had to tell her daughter she wasn’t coming home.

“She was great, we had a lot of fun spending time together – the kids used to call me nanny – we were all one big family.

Mr Sins said Jeremiah was his fish friend.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel was a “good boy…always nice to me.”

“The family, mom and kids, was my family. They brought me in.”

The tragedy has rocked the Leeton region, with Mayor Tony Reneker telling ABC “it’s just a sense of desperation.”

“It’s terrible news to wake up to, people are just shocked.”
