Each person offers their own insights about working with Joanna on some of her most celebrated projects.
Dame Joanna Lumley said, ‘It’s exciting to see most of your professional life flash before your eyes, especially when it’s punctuated by kind comments from dear friends.
“The program was a joy to make, and a very rare privilege for me to revisit my work, much of which I had not seen for decades. I enjoyed every second of telling my story in my own words.’
Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor, Factual Entertainment, Channel 5 said: ‘Dame Joanna is much loved by our audience and it has been an absolute pleasure working with her to create this wonderful celebration of her career for Channel 5 viewers.’
The documentary comes after Joanna recently said those who advocate cancellation culture “wouldn’t dare” go after her beloved Absolutely Fabulous character Patsy Stone.
The actress is known for her role as chain-smoking booze dog Patsy in the sitcom where she co-starred with show creator Jennifer Saunders.
On Talk TV’s Friday Night with Nadine, Joanna admitted that she doesn’t think the series would be made today because of Patsy and Edina’s “horrible” behavior.

When asked if she thought Patsy would be canceled today, the star simply replied, “They wouldn’t dare!”
Elaborating on how times have changed since it aired, she said, “Because this started in 1991 and the world has changed so much since then.
“I mean, you couldn’t smoke, you couldn’t drink, you couldn’t sniff coke, even if it was…
“I mean, it was great satire about disgusting people and it was just awfully funny and the mean things Edina could say about people and Patsy’s horrible behavior – shouldn’t be doing it now.”
Joanna Lumley: My Best Bits – In My Own Words airs Sunday 16 April at 9pm on Channel 5.
