Chelsea next manager: Luis Enrique now favorite for Julian Nagelsmann

Luis Enrique overtakes Julian Nagelsmann as the FAVORITE to become the next Chelsea manager as bets plummet this morning… with the Spaniard ‘traveling to London’ for further talks

  • Luis Enrique has emerged as the favorite to become Chelsea’s next manager
  • Ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was only the favorite this morning
  • Chelsea have spoken to both managers since firing Graham Potter last week

Luis Enrique has overtaken Julian Nagelsmann as the favorite to become the next Chelsea manager, with the former Spain boss reportedly traveling to London for further talks.

Naglesmann was the bookmakers’ favorite for the job at Chelsea this morning, but the German has now fallen behind the pecking order as the race to replace Graham Potter heats up.

Both managers are out of work, while Nagelsmann – who was sacked by Bayern Munich last month – also gained interest from Tottenham Hotspur following the departure of Antonio Conte. Enrique has been out of work since leaving Spain last December.

The former Barcelona boss is now the 4/9 favorite to take over via Stamford Bridge Paddy power, while Nagelsmann has dropped from 4/6 to 9/4. Mauricio Pochettino (16/1) and Ruben Amorim (22/1) are still in the running.

Sportsmail understands that Chelsea are willing to consider as many as seven candidates before narrowing down the list in a search led by co-sports directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

The Blues have made contact with both Enrique and Nagelsmann, with the pair the two main contenders to succeed Potter. Chelsea are also expected to talk to Pochettino, who has been linked to both Spurs and Real Madrid.

Next Chelsea manager opportunities

  • Luis Enrique: 4/9
  • Julian Nagelsman: 9/4
  • Mauricio Pochettino: 16/1
  • Reuben Amorim: 22/1
  • Brendan Rodgers: 25/1

Opportunities according to Paddy power

Chelsea’s talks with Enrique now appear to have progressed, but the Spaniard is now on his way to London to discuss the vacancy in more detail, according to The independent.

The 52-year-old is said to have successfully sold a vision for the team to the Chelsea chiefs, who intended to set up a high-intensity system using the youngsters within the team.

Enrique only spoke last week about his goal of working in England and specifically about his desire to “lead a team there that can do important things”. In fact, he has been working on his English ahead of a possible move to the Premier League, which has proved to be a stumbling block.

Meanwhile, ex-Brighton defender and now interim Chelsea boss Bruno Saltor will take charge of the London club until they find a replacement.

Saltor guided Chelsea to a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, missing out on a chance to climb back into the top half of the Premier League.
