Easter Hours 2023: Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Dan Murphys, IGA

With Easter just around the corner, shoppers are rushing to stock up on supplies before major retailers close their stores for the four-day long weekend.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are limited trading days, with supermarkets and bottle shops such as Coles and Dan Murphy’s seeing almost all of their stores close.

Independent retailers and malls close in most states and territories, and the post office is closed for all four days.

Here’s your guide to what’s open and what’s not over the Easter long weekend.

What is open on Good Friday?

Good Friday is a national holiday and is recognized as a ‘restricted trading day’ meaning limited trading hours.

Supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths and Aldi will be closed across the country, except in selected locations in South Australia.

The South Australian Coles stores in Victor Harbor, Murray Bridge Green and Mount Barker will remain open, as will nearly all IGA stores across the country.

Bottle shops like Dan Murphy’s and Vintage Cellars are all closed, so if you want to stock up for the long weekend you’ll need to get in by Friday or wait until Saturday.

However, if you live in South Australia you may still be able to grab a case as certain Liquorland stores open.

All Bunnings stores will close, as will Westfield Shopping Centres, with the exception of selected stores in Western Australia.

Major retailers such as Big W and Kmart are closing stores across Australia.

The majority of McDonald’s trade on Fridays, with the exception of those in food courts, which are closed for the day.

Domino’s trades on Good Friday and over the long weekend but have told customers to check opening times as they can vary.

All 7-Eleven stores will also be open during the long weekend during normal hours for all coffee, gas, ice cream and food needs.

What is open on Easter Saturday?

On Easter Saturday, most shops will operate normally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and supermarkets and bottle shops will almost all be open again as normal.

All major supermarkets and shops across the country will open with regular hours, with the exception of some shops in South Australia.

Bottle shops, Dan Murphy’s and BWS will reopen their doors on Saturday and pubs, clubs, restaurants, breweries and wineries will be trading as normal.

All Kmart, Bunnings and Big W stores nationwide will open, but hours may vary by store.

Most Westfield malls open on Easter Saturday across the country, but hours vary from state to state.

What is open on Easter Sunday?

On Easter Sunday, each state enforces its own rules regarding trading hours and openings.

All Woolworths stores will open with standard hours across most of the country – with the exception of NSW and the ACT where some stores will be closed.

Victorian shops all open except Moama, and all Western Australian shops open except Esperance.

Coles stores across the country will also open on Easter Sunday, with the exception of selected stores in South Australia, which will be closed then.

In South Australia, the opened Coles stores are; Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier, Victor Harbor and Mount Barker.

Aldi stores in Victoria and Western Australia open on Easter Sunday, but hours vary from store to store.

While IGA stores in every state remain open on Easter Sunday.

Most Kmart stores in NSW and South Australia close on Easter Sunday, with customers told to look up the opening times of their local stores in all other states.

Bunnings is open on Easter Sunday in most of the country, with the exception of some stores in NSW, which have been forced to close due to Easter regulations.

Most bottle shops will be open across the country, but will observe shorter hours.

What is open on Easter Monday?

Businesses open on Easter Monday, but with shorter trading hours.

Most Woolworths stores are open, with the exception of some Woolworths Metros in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

All Coles stores across the country are open except selected stores in South Australia.

South Australian Coles stores in Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier, Victor Harbor, Mount Barker and Berri will all open.

Westfield’s shopping centers welcome people everywhere except a select few in South Australia, where shoppers are told to check online for exact opening hours.
