Unbelievable comment Chris Minns made about Mark Latham before tweet

NSW Prime Minister Chris Minns took a brutal swipe at Mark Latham long before their more recent spat erupted.

In the wake of Mr Latham’s now-deleted tweet denigrating gay sex, Mr Minns has declared he will not ‘cooperate with him’, to which the One Nation state leader responded by calling the Labor leader ‘a fool’ .

However, Mr Minns’ antipathy towards Mr Latham goes back much further, according to a book by former top official Paul Howes.

In his 2010 autobiography, Confessions of a Faceless Man, Mr Howes describes a conversation he had with Mr Minns, who was then Assistant NSW Labor Secretary.

“Chris Minns calls from downstairs to talk about a few issues…” Mr. Howes wrote.

“When we talk about Latham’s foray into the campaign, he’s muttering the line of the election so far.

“Mate,” he says, “I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy over there kills backpackers on weekends – he’s completely out of control.”

Confessions of a Faceless Man is Mr Howes’s account of the 2010 federal election where, as head of the Australian Workers Union, he was seen as one of the powers that ousted incumbent Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in favor of Julia Gillard.

During that campaign, Mr Latham, the former federal Labor leader, briefly worked as a Channel Nine 60 Minutes reporter where he crashed a press conference held by Ms Gillard.

In an awkward confrontation, Mr Latham asked Ms Gillard why the Labor Party had made a complaint about his work for Channel Nine, an allegation the then Prime Minister would not comment on.

During his stint as a political pundit, Mr Latham also urged people to vote informally and got into a feud with veteran Nine political commentator Laurie Oakes.

The more recent controversy has been sparked by Mr Latham’s tweet addressed to Sydney MP Alex Greenwich on Thursday.

Mr Latham responded to Mr Greenwich labeling him a ‘disgusting human being’ for attending a rally on March 21 where Christians clashed with LGBTQI activists.

‘Awful? How does that compare to sticking your dick in a guy’s ass and covering him in shit?” Mr Latham wrote before deleting the tweet.

Mr Minns called the tweet “despicable” and said on Sunday he would try to dissuade Mr Latham from chairing committees in the Upper House of the NSW Parliament.

The leader of the One Nation NSW told Daily Mail Australia he was ‘not a candidate for’ committee chairs and that Mr Minns is ‘a fool’.

“But if that’s what a new prime minister thinks about, then he’s just showing people how empty he is.”

In a February op-ed for Daily Mail Australia, Mr Latham was even more scathing about Mr Minns, comparing him to the airheaded male model played by Ben Stiller in the Zoolander comedy films.

Minns has become the Derek Zoolander of politics: adept at striking poses on frivolous matters.

Mr Minns on Saturday accused Mr Latham of “trying… to import an American style (Donald) Trump-esque approach to politics in NSW, but without any political success”.

“(Mr Latham’s) commentary, his approach to politics in NSW (are) clearly someone who takes a hateful approach to politics,” he told Sky News.

“I don’t think it’s conducive to…good politics in this state to have him elevated to his status as a member of the NSW House of Lords.”

Mr Latham’s comments even led to One Nation founder and national leader Pauline Hanson demanding an apology.

She made the demand in a video when she revealed she had been unable to contact Mr Latham.

Mr Latham has refused to apologize and summed up his position in another tweet on Friday.

“Never apologize, never explain,” he said.

A tearful Mr Greenwich revealed on Friday the pain the abuse had caused him.

“This obviously hurt me. I cried a little bit at the end of the day yesterday,” he said.

“After ten years in this gig and being re-elected, I didn’t think I would still be a victim of homophobic abuse.”

However, Mr Greenwich refused to call on Mr Latham to apologize or resign.

“I don’t want to give him another soap box to pretend to be a victim when he tries to victimize people,” he said.

Mr Latham and Mr Minns have been contacted for comment.
